Wing, Shot & Fall started as a way to write down what actually happens in the field and in the yard — not the highlight reel, the whole thing: the trials that go sideways, the dogs that come into their own a season later than you expected, the mornings that don't produce a single bird.

I'm Brian Cooney. I handle and train gun dogs, judge shoot-to-retrieve trials, and spend most of my free time somewhere between a preserve in the Carolinas and my own backyard obedience drills. Everything here — hunts, training notes, gear that earned its keep, thoughts on conservation and dog care — comes from that same seat: a guy who's usually got a dog at heel and a bird in the bag, trying to get a little better at both every season.
